UMERKOT: A 10-year-old girl of New Chhor town, who was abducted two years ago, has finally been reunited with the family.

Victim Aasoo Kolhi told Dawn that she was kidnapped from Tando Adam when she had gone to buy milk for her parents who had gone there for casual labour.

Her alleged abductor identified as Abdul Rehman Sheikh, a dangerous criminal, “subjected her to abuse, forced her into begging and used the money she collected to fund his substance abuse”.

For two years, Aasoo was reportedly taken across various cities in Sindh and forced to beg. According to her, she endured significant abuse during that period.

Throughout this time, continuous efforts were made for her recovery. Local media provided extensive coverage while courageous journalists persistently raised her case before police officials in Karachi, Sukkur, Nawabshah and Hyderabad.

Aasoo was finally rescued by police at the Makli police post in Thatta district with the support of high police officials of the district.

Surprisingly, police have not got conducted her medico-legal examination.

Her father Haryo and mother thanked journalists and police for helping them.

The family has demanded the arrest of the accused.
