LAHORE: The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Academic Council on Monday approved several new programmes.
UET Vice Chancellor UET Prof Shahid Munir presided over the 235th meeting of the council while deans from all faculties, the registrar, and heads from academic and administrative departments attended the meeting.
It approved recommendations presented by the Board of Studies from the Computer Science Department, including new Bachelor’s programmes in applied computing, information technology, gaming and animation, information systems technology and an associate degree in information technology and computer engineering.
Additionally, the council approved the initiation of MSc and PhD programmes in mineral processing within the Mining Engineering Department, based on recommendations from the Board of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Engineering.
The Academic Council also approved the launch of a Bachelor’s of Science in biomedical sciences at the UET New Campus. Furthermore, the Scheme of Studies for an associate degree programme in applied computing was approved.
From the recommendations of the Board of the Faculty of Chemical, Metallurgical, and Polymer Engineering, the council approved an MSc in process plant management at UET Lahore, along with distance learning under smart classrooms for MSc Safety, Health, and Process Plant Management programmes at the New Campus.
Lastly, the council approved a BSc in Interior Design based on the recommendations of the Board of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning.
VC Prof Munir said these changes would play an important role in aligning the curriculum with current industrial demands and educational advancements. He said these programmes would provide students with specialised knowledge and practical skills, better preparing them for various career opportunities and emerging fields.
