RAWALPINDI: As many as 25 people received the first installment of loan for construction of houses in Rawalpindi district under the ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ Scheme of the Punjab government.
A total of 223 people from the district have become eligible to get the loan through balloting in September. After verification by a micro-finance organisation, 25 applicants were issued the loan. As many as 5978 people have submitted applications from the Rawalpindi district.
Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) Director General Saif Anwar Jappa told Dawn that 854 people across the province got the first installment of the loan.
“A Rs1.5 million loan has been allocated to each person for the construction of their house. The first installment is Rs700,000 and second installment will be given to them after checking the construction on the site,” he said.
He said Akhowat Foundation and the government were conducting verification of the applicants. He said the loan was being provided to the successful applicants within 10 days of the verification of their five marla plot in urban and 10 marla plot in rural areas along with their income status.
“People still can send applications without any fee to PHATA and after balloting on a monthly basis the verification of the successful applicants will be started to provide them the loan,” he said.
He said a comprehensive plan had been chalked out for verification.
