TOBA TEK SINGH: Pirmahal Additional District and Sessions Judge Jamshed Mubarak sentenced Muhammad Afzal to death and imposed a fine of Rs200,000 on Wednesday for the murder of Parveen Bibi in Chak 677/18 GB.
Prosecutors said that Afzal killed his brother’s widow after she rejected his marriage proposal.
He opened fire on her as she was bringing fodder home for her animals.
SEMINAR: A seminar titled ‘Punjabi Language’ was organised on Wednesday by the Department of Punjabi at Government College University of Faisalabad.
Punjabi Department head Dr Asma Ghulam Rasool discussed the tradition, importance, and future possibilities for the development of the Punjabi language and literature. Special guest Engineer Mehmood Awan (Ireland) spoke about the Punjabi language and presented papers on various topics, emphasising the promotion and development of the language.
Dr Munir Gujjar from Sargodha University, Dr Saima Batool from Lahore College for Women University, Dr Maryam Sarfaraz, Chand Shakeel, and Dr Fayyaz Hussain Maghiana also presented their views on Punjabi language and literature.
At the end of the seminar, prayers were offered for the late Dr Nasir Rana, a Punjabi teacher, critic, researcher, and writer, with tributes paid to his literary contributions.
WORKSHOP: A three-day Quranic calligraphy workshop, organised by the Punjab Council of Arts of Faisalabad, concluded on Wednesday at the Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Auditorium.
Renowned calligrapher Haji Muhammad Akram taught students about Quranic calligraphy techniques, and Dr Asghar, Director of the Institute of Art and Design, commended their work at the closing ceremony.
Certificates of appreciation were awarded to the participants.
ACCIDENT: An accident on Wednesday claimed the life of 16-year-old Samiullah from Chak 469 GB, who fell from the roof of a moving bus on his way to college. He succumbed to his injuries after being taken to Samundri THQ Hospital.
FIRE: Ten fire vehicles managed to contain a blaze that erupted on Wednesday at a petrol station near Thatha Bridge on Canal Road in Faisalabad.
The fire, reportedly caused by a lit cigarette thrown near the tanker, spread quickly, destroying two shops, a rickshaw, and a motorcycle before it was extinguished.
The timely response saved nearby homes and the filling station from further damage.
