LAHORE: For the first time in Punjab University’s history, the Council of Professionals (CoPs) has won all four cadre seats in the Syndicate elections, securing positions for professor, associate professor, assistant professor, and lecturer without forming any alliance.

In the professor category, Dr Muhammad Nasir was elected with 73 votes, followed by Dr Kamran Abid with 56, Muqit Javed with 24, Dr Nayab Batool with 8 and Dr Amanullah with 2 votes. Dr Zeeshan Mutahir won the associate professor seat with 71 votes, while Dr Khalid Mehmood received 38, Abrar Ahmed 24 and Shanar Wasim 4 votes.

For the assistant professor seat, Dr Ashi Zeeshan was elected with 124 votes, while Siddiqa Rayas garnered 89, Farhana Aziz 52, and Hina Saleem 5 votes. The lecturer seat went to Dr Amir Masoud, who received 85 votes, followed by Haris Khan with 52, Saira Ramzan with 24, and Farrukh Naveed with 2 votes.

The newly elected Syndicate members will serve three-year terms. CoPs leaders expressed their commitment to tackling the university’s financial and administrative challenges, in line with their manifesto.

CONFERENCE: Researchers at the University of Education’s (UE) third conference on “Trends and Research in Chemistry” recommended sustainable practices, advanced materials, and innovative chemical applications to drive future progress.

Held at the Township campus, the conference was inaugurated by Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering & Information Technology Vice Chancellor Prof Amir Azam Khan, who highlighted the pivotal role of chemistry in addressing global issues like environmental sustainability, healthcare, and energy. He urged researchers to pursue collaborative projects for meaningful advancements.

The conference drew faculty, students, and professionals from various sectors, along with Zoology Department Chair Prof Dr Shagufta Andleeb.
