ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday appointed Muhammad Saleem Khan as its new registrar.

According to a notification issued by Irshad Hussain, the assistant registrar, the appointment follows the recommendations of the committee under Rule 3(5) of the Supreme Court Establishment Service Rules, 2015.

Saleem Khan, who previously served as the chief secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the PTI government, has been appointed with the approval of Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi. He replaces Jazeela Aslam, a Lahore district and sessions judge, who was appointed by former CJP Qazi Faez Isa as the registrar of the top court.

Saleem Khan, a former officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service, will serve as the SC registrar in BS-22 on a contract basis for a term of three years, effective Nov 7, 2024.

He will receive pay and allowances as applicable to his position under the federal government and the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Umair, a BS-19 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service currently posted with the government of Punjab, has been transferred and his services placed at the disposal of the Supreme Court on a deputation basis.
