PESHAWAR: A trader’s office was damaged when a grenade, lobbed by unknown persons, went off in Gulbahar area here on Wednesday, the police said.

In a statement, the city police said the trader was dealing in cosmetic products and that no one was injured in the attack. Senior police officials said it was likely a case of extortion. “Most likely, the trader had refused to pay extortion,” a police official said.

The statement said the personnel of bomb disposal squad also reached the spot and collected evidence. It said the Counter-Terrorism Department would be asked to file a case.

On July 8, a similar explosion took place in the provincial capital’s Hayatabad Township, when a grenade went off inside the house of a trader. The explosion left four vehicles damaged.

The explosion took place inside the house of a furniture dealer. The police said the trader was receiving extortion calls.
