GUJRAT: A young lawyer of Gujranwala who was shot a couple of weeks ago succumbed to his wounds in a Lahore hospital on Thursday.

Adil Azam Butt was critically wounded by the firing of five suspects over a row on railway owned land near Gondalanwala Chowk in the Gujranwala Civil Lines Police area on Oct 25. He was shifted to the Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, where doctors had to amputate his leg as he sustained bullet wounds in both his legs; however, his condition did not improve and he breathed his last.

The Gujranwala District Bar Association had staged a protest against the incident on Oct 26 during which some lawyers had stormed into the office of city police officer. Later, police arrested both the nominated suspects in the murder case, including Ijaz.

A police spokesman said the main suspect was in custody on four-day physical remand and murder section would now be inserted in the case.

Gujranwala police had also arrested several lawyers on the charge of storming into the CPO office.
