ISLAMABAD: Speakers at an event on Friday equated ‘Gaza with Hiroshima on daily basis’ and slammed the West for being complicit in the genocide being committed by Israel in Palestine and Lebanon.

The event was held at the National Press Club to honour Pakistani media for supporting the Palestine cause.

Speaking on the occasion, former senator Mushahid Hussain Syed said the Zionist regime was committing crime against humanity on a daily basis but the West was not only silent but continued to support Israel.

“The West was not only politically supporting war crimes but providing Israel with financial support, technology and military aid,” Mr Syed said.

He added that the war in Gaza and Lebanon was for freedom and for the cause of humanity and those who spoke against the Zionist regime were also freedom fighters.

“Time has come for the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take action for the rights of the people of Palestine and Kashmir,” he said and lauded the NPC for organising the event that would highlight the Palestine cause.

The speakers lauded the role of Iran in standing with the oppressed people of Palestine and Lebanon who have been subjected to brutal attacks with the most modern weapons supplied to Israel by the West.

Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan Dr Reza Moghadam stressed the need to counter Western propaganda against the Muslim world.

“Role of the media was very important in highlighting the true picture of the situation in Gaza and Lebanon, that is why the West wanted to curb the free voice and Israel was constantly targeting journalists,” he said.

Dr Moghadam announced that despite all pressures, threats and attacks Iran will continue to support the Palestine cause.

He lauded the strong narrative of Pakistan against Israel, and said both Iran and Pakistan had a clear stance against the Zionist state.

Other speakers not only slammed the silence of western countries over the Israeli human rights violations but also the actions they have taken against the United Nations and UN bodies.

PFUJ President Afzal Butt claimed that with more than 83,000 tonnes of explosives dropped on Gaza the death toll there was even more than that in Hiroshima.

He slammed the global social media platforms for strict censorship over hashtags and messages related to Gaza and Lebanon.

The NPC office-bearers said they would continue their support for the Palestine cause.
