BAJAUR: The transporters have demanded of the district administration and the department concerned to ensure early rehabilitation of the dilapidated bridge on the main Bajaur-Mardan Road.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, they said that the local authorities closed the bridge to traffic on October 21 due to its dilapidated condition.

The transporters said that owing to the prolonged closure of the bridge they were forced to use the long Khar-Kharkano Bypass to connect with Bajaur-Mardan Road through Qazafi area.

Meanwhile, the authorities have started constructing an alternative route to facilitate the motorists till the damaged bridge is rehabilitated, a statement issued from the deputy commissioner’s office said.

It said Frontier Works Organisation was constructing the alternate stretch of the road.

The statement said transporters were forced to use bottlenecks to reach their destinations due to the closure of the bridge.

The statement said Khar subdivision assistant commissioner Dr Sadiq Ali had been tasked with ensuring the early completion of the route.

The statement said that the district administration was mindful of the difficulties faced by the transporters owing to the prolonged closure of the bridge.

The statement said the administration was making all out efforts to ensure the early rehabilitation of the damaged bridge.
