TEHRAN: At least five members of Iran’s security forces were killed on Sunday in a “terror attack” in the country’s restive southeast, local media said.

“Following the terror attack in Saravan county, in the south of the Sistan-Baluchistan province, five members of the security forces were killed,” news agency Fars said.

The Jaish al-Adl (‘Army of Justice’ in Arabic) has intensified attacks in the restive province. The organisation is listed as a “terrorist” group by Iran and also by the United States.

Impoverished Sistan-Baluchistan province, which also borders Afghanistan, is one of the few mainly Sunni provinces in Shia-dominated Iran.
