MIANWALI: The Mianwali police rescued a 12-year-old girl, kidnapped three days ago, and arrested the alleged kidnapper on Monday.

The Piplan police registered a first information report on Nov 8 by Muhammad Asif that his daughter, Sonia Bibi, left home at 9am to buy groceries but did not return. Her family began searching the area.

Local residents Iqbal and Sher Dil informed the family that they had seen Muhammad Zahid carrying Sonia on his motorcycle.

A case was registered under section 367A of the Pakistan Penal Code against Zahid. Public outcry on social media forced the police to initiate a more intensive search.

A special investigation team, led by the Piplan DSP, recovered the girl and arrested the suspect.

DHEE RANI: Under the ‘Dhee Rani’ scheme for collective marriages, applications are now open for orphans, daughters of disabled or impoverished parents, and financially disadvantaged women.

Women who are unable to afford marriage expenses can apply for the programme. Deputy Director of Social Welfare Fatima Ahmed informed Dawn that 67 applications have already been submitted on the district portal.

The government will provide Rs100,000 as ‘Salami’ via ATM cards to each couple, along with furniture, other essentials and food for wedding guests.

These weddings will be conducted in collective ceremonies, with an affidavit required from guardians to participate.
