RAHIM YAR KHAN: Wildlife officials are searching for a villager who caught a ‘52kg’ tortoise from his farmland and put it on sale through social media.

Tanvir of Chak 177-P on Tillu Road in Sadiqabad tehsil captured the ‘giant’ reptile when he was irrigating his fields. He wrapped it in a sheet and got it weighed.

Later, he uploaded its pictures on social media and invited bids to sell it. He shared his contact number as well.

When wildlife staff tried to reach him, he switched off his cell and left the village.

Wildlife Assistant Director Sultan Anjum told Dawn teams were in search of Tanvir to get the tortoise to release it into its natural habitat.
