LOW GAS PRESSURE

Published November 20, 2024

LOW GAS PRESSURE: With winter approaching, gas loadshedding in Karachi has gone worse. Households are reliant on gas for cooking and heating water. However, the low pressure and frequent gas shortages are making it extremely difficult for families to cope. In such a scenario, the lack of a consistent gas supply not only disrupts life, but also poses health risks, especially to the elderly and children. The authorities should take immediate action to address the issue. Ensuring a steady supply of gas and maintaining adequate pressure are essential for the wellbeing of the people.

HORRIBLE ACCIDENT: A tragic accident at the University Road in Karachi recently claimed the life of two men who were crushed by a tanker. The road, being a major thoroughfare, is crowded with students, commuters and families throu-ghout the day. The movement of large, heavy vehicles on such roads endangers lives and worsens traffic congestion. The tragedy could have been averted if strict regulations were in place to limit these vehicles to off-peak hours. It is crucial that the authorities take immediate action to implement restrictions on daytime movement of heavy vehicles in busy areas to prevent further loss of life.

INADEQUATE WATER SUPPLY: Over the last few weeks, Nazimabad Block 5 area has received little to no water supply. Moreover, the water pressure is low which makes it almost impossible to perform daily chores, such as washing, cooking and cleaning. The situation is forcing people to arrange water from other sources, like tankers, which is a very costly undertaking. Besides, the quality of water is seriously poor. With its colour, smell and taste being different, the contaminated water is a potential health hazard. There is a need to upgrade the water supply capacity and system, as well as improve the water quality to address the community’s needs.
