LAHORE: Lahore Whites’ pacer Ubaid Shah ran riot with the ball as he took 8-79 against Larkana on the first day of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy’s fifth-round match on Tuesday.
In the round’s other matches, Lahore Blues’ Qasim Akram and Abbotabad’s Mohammad Bilal struck centuries, while Quetta’s Jalat Khan and Islamabad’s Musa Khan and Fata’s Arshadullah registered five-wicket hauls.
At Islamabad’s Marghzar Cricket Ground, Ubaid, taking his maiden five-wicket haul, helped his team bundle out Larkana for 202 before Lahore Whites went on to post 121-1.
Meanwhile, Qasim’s quickfire 109 off 87 balls, which featured 18 fours and two sixes, saw Lahore Blues score 287 against Fata at the Gohati Cricket Stadium in Swabi as Arshadullah bagged 5-89. At the close of the day’s play, Fata were 52-2.
At Islamabad’s Diamond Cricket Ground, Bilal’s 102 proved crucial for Abbotabad to post 290 against Hyderabad. He received able support from skipper Usman Khalid (62 off 76, nine fours and six) for an 88-run seventh-wicket stand to lift his team from 139-6.
In turn, Hyderabad were 59-1 at stumps.
Jalat, against Dera Murad Jamali at the Railway Cricket Ground in Haripur, bagged 5-28 as he ran through the opponents’ batting line-up to bowl them out for 144 after Abid Ali top-scored with 67 off 176 balls. In response, Danish Aziz took four wickets to reduce Quetta to 73-4 before stumps were drawn.
At Islamabad’s National Cricket Ground, Musa (6-51) bagged his third consecutive first-class five-wicket haul as he helped Islamabad to skittle Faisalabad for 202. In reply, Islamabad were 72-5 by the close of play.
Elsewhere, at Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Ground in Rawalpindi, Peshawar notched 351-7 as Sajjad Ibraheem, Zubair Khan and Israrullah hit half-centuries.
In Charsadda, Multan had a productive day against Azad Jammu & Kashmir, closing the day unscathed with 117 runs on the board in reply to AJK’s 188.
Sialkot bundled out Karachi Blues for 171 before closing the day with 59 runs on the board for the loss of one wicket. Karachi Whites dismissed Bahawalpur for 248 in 72.3 overs as Mohammad Sheharyar top-scored with 95.
