Man gets five-year term for human trafficking

GUJRAT: A Gujranwala special court has handed down five-year imprisonment, with Rs0.5 million fine, to a human trafficker on Wednesday.

Special judge Central-1 Gujranwala Naeem Sheikh announced the verdict against Attique Rehman (52) of Pasrur teshil, Sialkot district, in a case registered under section 22(b) 1979.

The judge also imposed a fine of Rs500,000 to the suspect in the same case, ordering that in case of not paying the fine, the convict will have to undergo six months additional imprisonment.

The accused had been booked by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Gujranwala circle, in August 2023 and was arrested later on.

Meanwhile, FIA immigration authorities offloaded a passenger at Sialkot International Airport for being wanted by in a criminal case.

The passenger, Jabran Afzal, a resident of Gujrat, had to go to Sharjah (United Arab Emirates), but during scrutiny it was revealed that he was wanted by Islamabad police in a case registered in 2023.

The suspect was later handed over to the police concerned by the FIA authorities.

ARRESTED: The FIA Gujranwala circle claimed to have arrested a proclaimed offender in a case of illegal human trafficking.

The suspect, Saeed Ahmed, had been booked in a case by in 2022, but since then he was at large and was declared a fugitive.
