KARACHI: A young, married woman was stabbed to death in the name of so-called honour in Surjani Town on Wednesday, police said.

Area SHO Ghulam Husain Pirzada said 25-year-old Iqra Ali was killed by her husband, Faizan Ali, 30, at Hasan Brohi Goth. The suspect told the police that he killed his wife because he had suspicion over her character, the SHO added.

The police arrested the suspect and recovered the murder weapon.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Fire erupts in towel factory

A huge fire that erupted in an industrial unit off Superhighway on Wednesday evening caused substantial damages to goods, rescue services said. No one was hurt in the incident, they added.

Rescue-1122 official Hassaan Khan told Dawn that the fire broke out in a towel factory near Ayub Goth within the remit of the SITE-Superhighway police station.

Five fire tenders managed to control it after three hours’ efforts.

All stored raw material was destroyed causing big financial losses to owners.

Mr Khan said a technical fault in machinery caused a short circuit, leading to fire which engulfed the raw material used for manufacturing towels.

Meanwhile, a man was shot dead off Superhighway in Scheme-33 on Wednesday.

Sachal police said that Anwar Shah, 60, was shot and killed by the firing of unidentified suspects at Gulshan-i-Roomi. The police attributed some ‘personal enmity’ behind the incident but did not elaborate.
