Woman set on fire by friend over marriage row

LAHORE: A married woman was hospitalised with critical burns when a man allegedly set her on fire following a dispute over the proposal of marriage in Manawan area.

According to reports, the suspect also suffered multiple burns in the incident and was rushed to the health facility where his condition was said to be serious.

The police lodged a case on the complaint of the victim woman (S) who claimed that the suspect ‘H’ was her friend and she had been living in his house for the last few days or so. She said ‘H’ was also a married person.

She alleged that ‘H’ accommodated her in his house promising that he would marry her if she would get divorce from her husband.

During her stay at his home, the woman said, he beat her up arguing that she has ruined his family life.

He further blamed that his wife moved to her parents since he developed friendship with her.

During heated arguments, the woman alleged that ‘H’ set her on fire by throwing petrol on her.

An official said police are investigating as to how the man got burns too.
