KARACHI: A sessions court on Saturday granted bail to three policemen in a case pertaining to the death of a suspect in police lock-up.

Former SP-Clifton Nayyar ul Haq, Darakhshan SHO Ali Raza Leghari, Sub-Inspector Sanaullah Soomro and head moharrir Faisal Leghari have been booked in a case pertaining to the custodial death of Moiz Naseem, who was found dead in the lock-up of the Darakhshan police station in April and an autopsy said that he was tortured to death.

The SP is already on bail. The remaining three suspects moved applications seeking post-arrest bail.

After hearing the lawyers for parties concerned, the additional district and sessions court (south) allowed the bail applications against a surety bond of Rs150,000 each.

The court said that the legal heirs had declared that they would have no objection to the grant of bail to the suspects.

It may be noted that the legal heirs of the deceased had filed applications before the trial court, stating that they have pardoned the suspects “in the name of Almighty Allah”.

Remand of BLA suspects extended

An antiterrorism court on Saturday extended the physical remand of two suspects in a case pertaining to the killing of three persons, including two Chinese nationals, in a suicide attack near Karachi airport.

Suspect Javed and his accomplice, Gul Nisa, said to be associated with the proscribed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), were arrested on Nov 9.

After the end of their 10-day physical remand, the investigating officer of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) brought them before the court and pleaded for their further custody to complete the investigation.

The IO in his report submitted that an identification parade of the suspects was conducted in which eyewitnesses had rightly picked out them among the dummies and assigned their roles.

The ATC judge remanded them to 10 more days in the custody of the CTD.
