UMERKOT: In the wake of a sit-in held by cane growers outside the Digri Sugar Mills for disbursement of their Rs140m dues, the mills management has filed a Rs360m damages suit citing the Mirpurkhas deputy commissioner, SSP and 26 farmers as respondents.

The dues against mills pertained to the cane crop supplied to the mills during the 2022-2023 and 2023-24 seasons.

In the suit, filed in the Digri Civil Court, the management has claimed that the sit-in had caused significant operational losses to the mills.

The sit-in was led by former taluka nazim and farmer, Mumtaz Marri. Published in Dawn, November 27th, 2024
