SUKKUR: Sukkur police on Tuesday claimed to have gunned down two suspected dacoits, who had allegedly robbed a telecom firm’s cashier of Rs10 million in the city on Nov 18.

A press release issued by the office of DIG Police Sukkur Range said that the ‘dacoits’ identified later as Abdul Khaliq Solangi and Mukhtiar Solangi were killed during a shootout with police near Jagir More (turning) within the limits of Airport police station.

It said the ‘robbers’ had intercepted a car near Dua Chowk on Bandar Road and looted Rs10 million, a laptop and mobile phones from Mr Fahad, the cashier of a telecom firm and his driver on Nov 18. Eight dacoits in all took part in the robbery, it said.

It said that police had found weapons and a bagful of cash lying by the suspects’ dead bodies. Police would soon recover the rest of the robbed cash and arrest the remaining robbers, it added.
