HYDERABAD, April 13: A committee formed by a conference held on March 23 this year has decided to mobilise public opinion for the enforcement of the 1940 Pakistan resolution was held here on Wednesday.
Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo presided over the first meeting of the committee.
The meeting decided to hold workshops, seminars, conferences and symposia to develop consensus on the implementation of 1940 Pakistan resolution and the Bhitshah national declaration.
It was decided that liberal forces of oppressed nations of the country would also be contacted to muster support for the implementation of resolutions.
The meeting decided to hold a conference in Hyderabad on May 20 to discuss political, economic and cultural excesses committed against Sindh since the making of Pakistan.
It was decided to print and circulate the text of 1940 resolution and Bhitshah national declaration among people to educate them about the objective of Pakistan.
Ayaz Latif Palijo was appointed coordinator of the committee.
Rasool Bux Unnar, Nazeer Memon, Prof Mushtaq Mirani, Hafeez Kumbhar and Punhal Sario attended the meeting.
ANNIVERSARY: Renowned scholar and educationist Dr N. A. Baloch has said that Allama I. I. Kazi was a great humanist and a scholar who had devoted his entire life for the betterment of humanity through education.
He was addressing Sindh University teachers and employees on occasion of 38th death anniversary of the founder vice-chancellor of the university, Allama I. I. Kazi after offering Fateha and laying floral wreath at Allama’s mausoleum on Thursday.
Deans of faculties, heads of institutes and departments, registrar, administrative officers, teachers and employees attended the ceremony.
Highlighting services rendered by Allama Saheb, Dr Baloch said that his services for human development would be remembered for all times.
He said that Allama I. I. Kazi was a great scholar and educationist of modern era and added that it was the duty of all of us to follow in his foot steps to promote the cause of education.
He said that Allama Sahib’s vision of establishment of the university was to provide education with modern facilities.
He said that Allama Saheb was also a great religious scholar.
He said that in historical perspective, the University of Sindh was the second oldest university of the country and it was the duty of all of us to work together for the development of the university.
Dr Baloch condemned the Nectar Park carnage and expressed deep sorrow and grief on the death of religious scholars and innocent people in the incident.
PROTEST: The Hyderabad chapter of the All-Pakistan Clerks Association on Thursday staged a protest demonstration outside the press club against inordinate increase in prices of essential commodities.
Speaking on the occasion, the provincial general secretary of the association, Ashram Boaz and Nor Mohammad Shaikh said that due to sky-rocketing increase in prices of essential commodities life of working class and low-paid government employees has become miserable.
They said that if the government increased salaries of the working class and low-paid government servants by Rs500 per month, the prices of food and other essential goods were increased by Rs1, 000.
They said that due to this anomaly the working class and poor employees were getting no relief whatsoever.
They appealed to the government to increase salaries of poor employees commensurate with the increase in the prices of essential commodities.
MUET: The registrar of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro announced on Wednesday the university would remain closed for three days to mourn the Nishtar Park tragedy as per orders of the Sindh governor.
However, since the university was on ISO certified list, it would hold extra classes from April 15 to April 22 from 8am to 5am to cover the time lost, he added.
