MEANINGLESS RENOVATION: For the last two months, the elevator of the Civil Hospital, Gujranwala, has been out of commission. The hospital was shifted from city centre to the periphery in the name of providing better healthcare services. But after renovation, it has been struggling to cater to the overwhelming number of patients. It is almost impossible for the families to shift their patients to the upper floors. Besides, patients have to travel between the old and new blocks as some departments are still in the old building. The people have not been provided any shuttle service which was promised repeatedly. The authorities must address these issues.

HOSTILE ATMOSPHERE: Crumbling buildings, leaking roofs and inadequate facilities represent life at the University of Karachi. It is a rather hostile atmosphere, and it hampers the academic progress of the university’s students. The lack of proper classrooms, libraries and laboratories significantly hinders students’ ability to learn and research. Moreover, the poor maintenance of the campus poses serious safety risks to all copncerned. It is disheartening to see the management of such a prestigious university neglecting its basic duty. The administration must prioritise the urgent need for repairs to create a conducive learning environment.

FEEDING BIRDS: Feeding birds on rooftops not only revives a beautiful tradition, but helps us utilise our leftover food in the best possible way. By placing bits of bread, grains, or other suitable leftovers outside, we can help nourish local birds, especially in places where natural food sources are limited. Birds play a key role in balancing ecosystems. They help control pests, pollinate plants, and disperse seeds. Encouraging young people to participate in this meaningful activity can help foster a sense of responsibility towards the environment, and preserve the beauty and balance of the bird world for generations to come.
