LARKANA, April 13: An unruly mob protesting against Tuesday’s Karachi bomb blast ransacked the zonal office of Muttahida Qaumi Movement near Bagh-i-Zulfikar here on Thursday.
The mob also injured MQM activist Sagar Brohi.
Aijaz Junejo, the zonal in-charge of the MQM, Larkana, told Dawn that the protesters damaged office furniture and equipment.
He said the matter had been conveyed to London and 90 offices of the party.
Mr Junejo said that the office was attacked when it was closed from inside and Sagar Brohi was there.
He declined to name any religious or political party for the attack and damage.
Larkana DIG Akhtar Gorachani and DPO Ghulam Rasool Domki later visited the office.
A police picket was set up there and police mobile parked to protect the office.
Meanwhile, shopkeepers handed over Abid Bhutto, Nadeem Qadri, Irshad and Abid Soomro of the Ahl-i-Sunnat Jamait to police for hurling threats.
As the news broke, hundreds of religious activists who were already on the streets encircled the Dari police station where Abid Bhutto and others were kept.
The situation grew tense, as police on duty failed to contain it and the DPO arrived at the police station.
The official ordered release of all the workers to pacify the protesters.
A constable, identified as Bashir Bhutto, was also injured in the scuffle and admitted to the Chandka Medical College Hospital.
The protesters also pelted stones at police near the Bank Square.
Office-bearers of the MQM talking to journalists later accused workers of the Ahl-i-Sunnat Jamaat for attacking the MQM office.
Hafiz Ahmed Ali Abbasi, the divisional president of the Jamait Ulema-i-Pakistan disputed the charges, saying that the MQM was telling concocted story.
Addressing a procession at the Pakistan Chowk, Moulvi Badaruddain Surhiyo and Irshad Ahmed accused the MQM for the Karachi blast.
They said that the coalition government had miserably failed to maintain law and order situation.
They lashed out at General Parvez Musharraf and Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad.
They said that they would not sit idle till the arrest of the killers of the religious leaders.
