KARACHI: The third plenary session of the International Islamic Economic Conference on Thursday [Dec 1] unanimously adopted the reports of the Agriculture and Agrarian Reforms Committee, the Transport and Communications, and the Trade Committees of the Conference which were submitted for approval. Recommendations of the Committee included formation of an International Federation of Islamic Chambers of Commerce and Industry, immediate improvement of transport systems linking the Muslim world — including a railway system connecting contiguous Islamic countries — and a 10-point programme of radical agrarian reforms, ensuring a fair deal to the cultivator and equal distribution of land.
Indonesia … volunteered to contribute its full share towards the aims and objectives set by the conference. Mr Idham, Indonesian representative in Pakistan and leader of the Indonesian delegation, visualised that the conference might soon be held in Indonesia.
Radical changes in the primitive and antiquated agrarian economy of the Islamic countries “must be brought about”, said the resolution of the Agriculture and Agrarian Reforms Committee.
