SWABI: Mohammad Arifullah Sarhadi, a senior journalist, passed away after protracted illness here on Monday night. He was 80.
Mr Arifullah was the founder and editor-in-chief of a local newspaper, Daily Islah.
His funeral prayers were held on Tuesday in Gul Dher, Tordher. Later, he was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard.
Gul Bacha, his son, said Mr Arifullah had been bed-ridden for last few months, and his condition deteriorated during last few days. He said his father breathed his last at his home.
Born in 1944, Arifullah was one of the founders of the labour union in Karachi and lived there for a long time.
He was a labour leader and knew how a union should work, register and draft constitution, and what role a leader should play for betterment of the workers.
He left behind a widow, five sons and four daughters to mourn his death.
Meanwhile, Swabi Press Club members at a condolence meeting paid glowing tribute to the journalist.
