SUKKUR: DIG Faisal Abdullah Chachar and SSP Amjad Ahmed Shaikh, speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, said that an operation was launched in the riverine area of Sukkur district following the martyrdom of a police officer, Arbelo Chachar, in Pannu Aqil.

“This time the police succeeded in entering the area controlled by notorious dacoit Yasin Teghani,” they said, adding that police had never succeeded in entering the area in the past.

“We have destroyed many hideouts of dacoits and established writ of law, they claimed.

Commenting on the certain claims by the dacoits on the social media, they said that the media should not believe them. The police officers also claimed to have busted a gang of bike-lifters by arresting three of its members and recovered 72 stolen / snatched motorcycles from them on Tuesday.

They identified the arrested suspects as Altaf Kalhoro, Nabi Dayo and Ghulam Mohammad Soomro.

They said that the police had started raids for the arrest of seven other members of the gang.

Commenting on a clash between a crowd of villagers and police a day earlier after the killing of a suspect in an encounter, the police officers said that the suspect, Raza Mohammad Zangejo, was a criminal and killed in an encounter. He was seen committing robberies when several CCTV footages were placed on record, they added.
