Excise inspector caught taking bribe

SARGODHA: An excise inspector was allegedly caught accepting bribe from a property dealer by the Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) officials on Tuesday.

According to ACE officials, the suspect,Ms Najma, allegedly demanded Rs20,000 bribe from a property dealer, Yaqoob, for unsealing his office and finally settled for Rs12,000.

On the complaint of the property, an ACE team conducted a raid under the supervision of a civil judge/magistrate, arresting the suspect red-handed, recovering the bribe money from the excise inspector.

As per the ACE officials, some locally influential persons attempted to pressurise them to save the suspect, but they shifted her to the anti-corruption police station for legal action.

ARRESTED: Bhalwal city police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested an injured robbery suspect following an encounter near Habib Canal, while his accomplices managed to escape.

According to sources, Bhalwal city police got a tip-off that three motorcyclists looted a man and sped towards Old Bhalwal.

On being chased, the suspects opened fire on the policemen and took positions in the reeds along the banks of Habib Canal, continuing the firing. The police retaliated the fire.

When the suspects’ guns went silent, the police launched a search, finding one of the suspects lying injured, allegedly in the firing by his accomplices, who fled away.

The police arrested the injured suspect, later identified as Mohsin Nawaz of Bhakkar.

Police teams are looking for the fleeing suspects.
