ISLAMABAD: A cloud-based early warning system has been developed jointly by the Chinese Meteorological Department (CMA) and the Pakistan Meteorological Department to enhance Pakistan’s ability to prevent meteorological disasters and cope with the climate change issue.
Tailored for Pakistan, the system focuses on extreme weather events in Pakistan such as glacier lake outburst floods, monsoon floods, heavy rains and other disasters.
Since 2023, experts and scholars from the China Meteorological Administration and Pakistan Meteorological Department have worked together to develop a cloud-based early warning system.
The system features a cloud-based open platform and toolbox series covering artificial intelligence models, severe weather identification algorithms, and early warning information dissemination, enabling swift and effective tracking of meteorological disasters.
A batch of meteorological observation equipment provided by the Chinese government has been delivered to Pakistan Meteorological Department.
