BAHAWALPUR: Multan anti-narcotics special judge Mumtaz Ahmed, announcing judgment in 48kg charas case of 2023, awarded 20-year imprisonment with a fine of Rs800,000 each to four accused.

According to the prosecution, convicts Vicram, Rustam, Ali Raza and Rizwan were arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Force while supplying charas in a car.

Their challan was submitted to the court, which also ordered that in case of default on fine, the convicts would have to undergo another six-month sentence each.

ARRESTED: Punjab highway patrolling police Vehari DSP Rana Tanveer claims to have arrested three drug traffickers Hashim, Umar and Idrees of Jaranwala and recovered over one maund charas from their car in the limits of Jhal Sial police station on Thursday.

ANF had arrested them with 48kg charas

They were handed over to Jhal Sial police for registration of a case.

Khanewal police, on a tip off, arrested Khalid Khan Pathan and recovered 25kg heroin from his car.

RAPE ATTEMPT: Sahooka police in Vehari district claim to have arrested a suspect for allegedly trespassing on a house and making an attempt to rape a woman ‘F’ while she was sleeping.

When the woman raised an alarm, the family members and neighbours reached there and overpowered the accused, who was later handed over to police.

Police have registered a case and are investigating.

IUB: Islamia University Bahawalpur Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Kamran inaugurated a laboratory for mapping the archaeological heritage of South Asia project at Tabish Alwari building on Baghdadul Jadid campus on Thursday.

The research work to be carried with the help of this laboratory will be helpful to identify the archaeological sites in the area.

The state-of-the-art technical equipment of the laboratory has been provided by a UK-based non-profit organisation.

The VC stressed the need for utilising such resources to enhance the academic and research capabilities of the university.
