LAKKI MARWAT: Three people were injured in a grenade-cum-firing attack in Daulatkhel area here late on Wednesday night.

“The attack prompted villagers to resort to firing in the air as they thought it a terrorist attack,” said a local resident. He said the villagers started firing when they heard the blast followed by gunfire.

Police identified the injured as Mohammad Arif, 29, Abdul Wahid, 39 and Ihsanullah 38 and said they had been shifted to Government City Hospital.

They said the assailants managed to escape from the area.

An injured, Mohammad Arif, told police that he and his friends were sitting in the guestroom of Ihsanullah when they saw a flashlight. He said he came out of the guestroom and yelled at suspects including Shafiq, Naseer and Mustafa, who hurled a grenade and also opened fire.

“Consequently, he, Wahid and Ihsan were injured and taken to the hospital,” he maintained. The police said that they had initiated an investigation after registration of a case against the suspects under relevant sections of law.

Meanwhile, a man was injured in a mortar shell explosion in the Nurar area of Bannu district on Thursday.

Police said at least four mortar shells fired from unknown directions landed in the rural locality in the limits of Miryan police station.

They said the mortar shells exploded, leaving a passerby Aftab injured, who was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital.
