LAHORE: The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) organised ‘The Tales of Taxali Gate’, a guided tour of Taxali Gate and nearby historical monuments.

The tour featured visit to notable sites such as Bethak Ustaad Daman, Buggy Bazaar, Mai Eidan Ka Ahata, Hujra Shah Hussain, Pakistan Talkies, Aziz Theatre, Haveli Barood Khana, House of Sir Ganga Ram, Lahnga Mandi, Haveli Awais Mir, House of Noor Jehan and actor Zumurd’s house.

Tourists were also treated to a unique Rangeela Rickshaw Ride.

The tour commenced at 10am as tourists gathered on Fort Road near Food Street and entered Taxali Gate, followed by visits to other historical landmarks. Refreshments were provided to the participants, who shared positive feedback about their experience.

WCLA Deputy Director of Tourism Asghar Hussain said, “Taxali Gate stands as a testament to the rich architectural heritage of the Mughal era and historically functioned as a vital entry point into the city, supporting trade and movement. The old houses and havelis within its vicinity, built during the Mughal and British periods, reflect this significance. Exploring this area is essential to preserving its cultural and historical legacy. Hence, our guided tours prioritise destinations like Taxali Gate to enable visitors to engage with and appreciate these invaluable heritage sites.”

WCLA Director General Kamran Lashari also shared his thoughts on the guided tour. He said, “Visitors to Lahore’s heritage sites have long been captivated by the historic 13 gates of old Lahore, among which Taxali Gate remains one of the most renowned. This gate offers a comprehensive cultural experience through its historic architectural landmarks, dynamic street culture, and diverse local culinary offerings. The WCLA has worked tirelessly to protect this cultural heritage from the pressures of urban development and modernisation. Measures have been taken to maintain unrestricted access to these sites, ensuring inclusivity for all visitors.”
