NAROWAL: A University of Narowal student, along with his accomplices, stopped a bus and opened fire after being denied boarding.

Bus helper Muhammad Owais was seriously injured in the incident and was shifted to Shakargarh Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

University registrar Dr Haseeb Sarwar told Dawn that the university bus was en route to Shakargarh with students returning home when an unidentified student attempted to board the bus but refused to show his university ID card when asked by the helper. This led to a quarrel, after which the helper forced the student off the bus and resumed the journey with other students.

The student, identified as Saran Ali, later chased the bus with the help of his accomplices. They intercepted the bus at Gumtala stop on Narowal-Shakargarh Road, where the driver and helper were fired upon. The assailants fled after the violence.

According to police, an FIR was registered against Saran, Bilal, Ali Murtaza and eight unidentified accomplices. Two suspects have been arrested, and raids are underway to capture the remaining perpetrators.

Dr Haseeb Sarwar confirmed that Saran is a BS Zoology student at the university. He said the identities of the other suspects would be revealed upon their arrest.
