ISLAMABAD: An attempted murdercase was registered against five unidentified gunmen, who shot and injured a policeman during an attack at police team in capital’s outskirts, police said on Monday.

The case was registered in response to a complaint lodged by the injured Head Constable Shafiq Ahmed at Sumbal police station under section 324, 353 and 186 of the PPC.

The head constable sustained two bullet injures, one each in his chest and hand, when the gunmen opened fire on him as he along with other officials reached Choongi No 26 in response to a call from a robbery victim on police helpline.

Earlier, a gang of robbers intercepted Hassan Khan near a petrol pump near Chongi No 26 and looted Rs10,000 cash and a mobile phone along with sliver chain and ring, the police said, adding that later the robbers intercepted Sar Gul at a weekly bazaar at Choongi No 25 and looted Rs31,000 cashfrom him and Rs45,000 from his cousin and escaped.

Shortly, the robbers intercepted Gul Khan near the same locality and looted Rs44,000 cash and a mobile phone, they added.

One of the victims called at the police helpline and in response a Dolphin Squadpatrol immediately reached the spot at the weekly bazaar, they said, adding that the robbers riding on two motorcycles appeared at the spot and the robbery victim informed the police about them by saying that they robbed him.

The police team tried to intercept them, however, the robbers started indiscriminate firing at the police team, the police said, adding that as a result the head constable sustained two bullet injuries and fell on road and started bleeding.

Shortly the robbers escaped from the spot in a car, which appeared at the scene later, and leaving behind their two motorcycles at the spot, they said, adding that late the injured head constable was taken to hospital where he was given medical assistance and kept there under the observation of doctors.

Separate cases have been registered at the Sumbal police stations, they added.
