KARACHI: Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori on Monday emphasised the need for the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to build public trust to ensure effective accountability.

He stated that NAB officials must work with dedication and a positive attitude to create a corruption-free society.

Speaking at a seminar titled ‘Role of accountability in good governance’, organised by NAB Karachi in connection with International Anti-Corruption Day at Governor House, he highlighted the importance of better accountability for the country’s prosperity and development.

He urged all citizens to play their part in steering the country toward progress. He also praised NAB Karachi’s efforts in combating corruption, calling it crucial for Pakistan’s economic growth.

Governor Tessori pointed out the severe consequences of corruption, including reduced domestic and foreign investment, and slower economic development. He stressed the role of moral integrity in preventing corruption.

In his welcome address, NAB-Karachi Director General Javed Akbar Riaz reiterated NAB’s commitment to eradicating corruption and promoting good governance.

He emphasised the importance of accountability as a cornerstone of national progress and called for collective efforts from all stakeholders to eliminate corruption from society.

He also highlighted that NAB Karachi had achieved the highest indirect recovery in the bureau’s history, amounting to Rs 2,497,000 million through settlements.

The seminar featured speeches from notable figures, including former SBP Governor Dr Ishrat Hussain, Arts Council President Ahmed Shah, and Financial Monitoring Unit director general Lubna Farooq, who shared insights on combating corruption and fostering transparency.

Later, the governor distributed merit certificates to NAB Karachi officers in recognition of their outstanding performance in 2024.

Shields were also awarded to the top students who won a declamation contest on anti-corruption themes held in English, Urdu, and Sindhi across colleges in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Mirpurkhas Divisions.
