GUJAR KHAN: Tributes were paid to Sawar Mohammad Hussain Shaheed on his 53rd anniversary at ceremony in which a large number of locals and military personnel participated.

An active contingent of the Pakistan Army presented a guard of honour to the martyr while Major General Intikhab Alam laid a floral wreath at the monument of Sawar Muohammad Hussain on behalf of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Syed Asim Munir.

The press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that “On this day in 1971, during the Indo-Pak war at the Zafarwal-Shakargarh Sector, Sawar Mohammad Hussain Shaheed displayed unparalleled courage and extraordinary devotion to duty. By identifying enemy tanks and directing the crew of recoilless rifles, he contributed to the destruction of 16 enemy tanks. During this valiant act, he was struck in the chest by enemy machine-gun fire and embraced the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.”

It added that the anniversary of Sawar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed stands as an enduring testament to the unwavering commitment and supreme sacrifices of the Armed Forces of Pakistan in safeguarding the sovereignty and dignity of the motherland.

Meanwhile, the statement issued by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the entire nation, including him, was proud of the martyrs and their families. PM said that Sawar Mohammad Hussain Shaheed Nishan-i-Haider displayed unparalleled bravery and courage in the 1971 war, and his sacrifice for the safeguard of the motherland would never be forgotten by the nation.
