LARKANA: Incharge of women protection cell at the office of Senior Superintendent of Police Qambar-Shahdadkot has accused in a video, which went viral on social media, an inspector and a head constable of harassing her and appealed to Inspector General of Police Sindh to order inquiry against her harassers.
Larkana Police Range DIG Nasir Aftab Pathan took notice of the policewoman’s video and ordered a range inquiry officer to probe her allegations, said a spokesman for the DIG on Wednesday.
Police constable Sanam Parveen Brohi confirmed to Dawn on Wednesday that the viral video on social media was uploaded by her and owned the story she had narrated in the video.
She said that she had held the charge of the women protection cell for the past five years and she had done every bit to serve justice to women who approached the cell for justice.
She alleged that the inspector had forced her to be his friend and started harassing her when she declined his offer. Afterwards, she received transfer orders ad a lady police constable, who was junior to her, was posted in her place despite her satisfactory performance for five years, she said.
Sources said that IGP Sindh had asked Larkana SSP Dr Mir Rohal Khan Khoso, who held additional charge of Qambar-Shahdadkot SSP to probe the policewoman’s allegations.
Head of public complaint redressal cell of Qambar-Shahdadkot, DSP Zahid Hussain Tunio, said in an explanation letter to Ms Brohi on Dec 11: “You were transferred on Dec 6 to safe house in Qambar and Zeenat Wagan was posted as in-charge of women protection cell”.
The letter said that she refused to comply with the orders of the SSP and even declined to hand over the charge to the new appointee. “It showed gross negligence and inefficiency on your part, therefore you are called upon to explain your position in writing within 24 hours as to why further departmental action should not be forwarded against you.”
In another letter, the DSP said that Ms Brohi and Ms Zeenat Wagan were directed to come to the office and comply with the orders. But Ms Brohi refused to comply with the SSP’s orders and declined to hand over the charge to Ms Wagan when she visited the cell, said the letter.
The DSP recommended to SSP to not only initiate departmental action against Ms Brohi but also transfer her to some other district of Larkana range in the interest of government work.
