LAHORE: The police arrested a rickshaw driver for allegedly raping a 15-year-old schoolgirl in front of her younger sister here on Thursday.

A police official said the rickshaw driver picked the girls before the closure of the school, giving an excuse that their father had been injured in a road accident. He said as the rickshaw driver used to pick and drop the girls, the school administration allowed him to take them on a short leave.

The suspect took them to a quarter where he allegedly raped ‘M’ in front of her younger sister who later brought the matter into the notice of her parents who alerted the police.

The police shifted the girl to a hospital for medical examination, and took the suspect into custody after registering a rape case against him. The suspect was the next door neighbour of the girls.

A police official said Jehanzeb was living in a rented house along with his family. He said the property dealer had a monetary dispute with the family. On the day of the incident, he had an argument with Jehanzeb and his brother, Shahzeb, over the same matter.

Later, the dealer returned with a pistol, opened fire and injured both of them. The two brothers were rushed to a hospital where Jehanzeb succumbed to his injuries while the condition of Shahzeb was stated to be serious.
