BAJAUR: Construction work on the much-needed alternative route for the damaged key bridge on the Jar River was opened to traffic here on Thursday.

A statement issued by the deputy commissioner’s office said that with the completion of the project, people will have easy access to the main Bajaur-Mardan artery. “We are pleased to inform local transporters, commuters, and the general public that the alternative route along the damaged Jar Bridge, which had been closed to all sorts of traffic since October 21, is now completed and open for both vehicular and pedestrian movement,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, transporters and commuters, while talking to Dawn on Thursday, confirmed the opening of the alternative route for vehicular traffic.

They also thanked the relevant authorities for their efforts in constructing the alternative route adjacent to the damaged river bridge. However, they demanded that the authorities concerned should begin repair work on the affected bridge at the earliest.
