Bahawalpur girl gang-raped, burnt with acid

BAHAWALPUR: Two persons allegedly gang-raped a girl for three days and after causing serious burns on her face and body with acid attack threw her at the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) where the people caught the main suspect and handed him over to police.

Dawn learnt that the victim ‘S’ belonging to Kichiwala town in Fort Abbas tehsil of Bahawalnagar district was staying at a girls hostel in Asif Town, Satellite Town, Bahawalpur.

She was stated to be in contact with the suspect ‘H’ to get a job.

According to police spokesperson, a few days ago the suspect asked the girl to meet him and later he along with his friend allegedly gang-raped her and kept her in illegal confinement during which they continued to criminally assault her.

When the victim’s family tried to contact her on mobile phone, they found no response.

At this her brother rushed to Bahawalpur and got registered an FIR under Section 365 of PPC with Baghdadul Jadid police station against the main suspect and his accomplice.

Main suspect caught while leaving her at BVH

According to police sources, on Thursday evening, two persons brought the victim in a serious condition with acid burns on her face and body to the BVH’s emergency department where the main suspect was caught by the people while his accomplice managed to flee.

He was later handed over to police, while the victim was admitted to the emergency ward.

BVH Medical Superintendent Dr Aamir Mahmood Bokhari said the condition of the victim was serious and her samples for forensic tests had been sent to laboratory.

The police spokesperson said the rape section 376 PPC would be added to the earlier FIR after the completion of the medical examination report.

SUSPENDED

The Lodhran district police officer (DPO) Kamran Mumtaz on Friday suspended from service four police officials after the escape of an under-trial accused of Dunyapur from their custody.

According to police sources, Shehbaz, arrested under sections 302, 392 and 411 of PPC dated Aug 23, 2024, was presently on judicial remand in the Lodhran district jail.

He being ill was admitted to the Lodhran DHQ Hospital where head-constable Nazir Javed and constables Asad Siddique, Muhammad Saleem and Muhammad Nadeem were on his duty.

Late on Wednesday night, the three constable were sleeping in the hospital’s room while head-constable Nazir was with Shehbaz. Taking an opportunity, Shehbaz attacked the head-constable and snatched his official rifle. He injured the policeman with its butt and escaped.

On the complaint of Lodhran city SHO Aamir Nadeem, Lodhran police station registered a case against four policemen, arrested Asad Siddique and lodged him in the police lock-up. Nazir was seriously injured and other two policemen managed to flee.

It is learnt that the police have taken into custody the wife and a relative of Shehbaz and are investigating.

BOMB

Panic gripped the area when an abandoned bomb was found in the rural area of Mandi Yazman, about 40km from here, on Friday.

According to police sources, some children found a bomb-type device, which created panic in the area. The police called the bomb disposal squad which defused it relieving the people from any possible threat.
