BAHAWALPUR: A car accident on the Multan-Sukkur Motorway near Jalalpur Peerwala in Lodhran district killed a couple from Khanpur, while their three children sustained serious injuries late Friday night.

According to NH&MP sources, Saeed Arif (40) and his wife Hina Shammas (35) were travelling with their children — Abeaha Fatimah (14), Ibrahim (10), and Yousaf (7) — from Multan to Khanpur when a tyre burst caused their car to crash.

The couple died on the spot, and the injured children were taken to a nearby hospital.

Police are awaiting the family’s relatives to collect the bodies.

MEPCO TEAM BEATEN: Two Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) linemen Amjad Imran and Muhammad Aamir Khan were allegedly attacked and tortured by a gang of 10 motorcyclist power thieves at Basti Jalalabad, in the jurisdiction of Muzaffarabad police, on Saturday.

According to a Mepco press release, the attackers also opened fire on the linemen. The SDO has submitted an application to police for registering a case against the ten suspects.

MoU: The Balochistan Government and the Sadiq Public School (SPS) have signed an MoU to provide boarding, lodging and stipends for students from Balochistan.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti. SPS Principal David Dowdles signed on behalf of the school. Under this agreement, SPS will accommodate 100 Baloch students in its boarding houses, with the government covering expenses for 85 selected students. Additionally, SPS will offer 15 scholarships to talented students from the province.

GREEN TRACTOR: Under Punjab Government’s subsidy scheme, green tractors were distributed to growers in Bahawalpur and Vehari on Saturday.

In Bahawalpur, keys for 417 tractors were handed over to balloting-selected farmers at a ceremony held at the district council. The event was attended by Deputy Speaker Malik Zaheer Iqbal Channar, MNA Samiul Hassan Gilani, MPAs Dr Muhammad Rana Tariq, Khalid Jajja, Shoaib Owaisi, Khalid Mahmood Warren and Bahawalpur Deputy Commissioner Dr Farhan Farooque.

In Vehari, 388 green tractors were distributed by MPs Tehmina Daultana, Mian Saqib Khursheed, Chaudhry Muhammad Yousaf Kaseala and Vehari DC Imrana Tauqeer. Each selected farmer will receive a subsidy of Rs 10 lakh on their tractors.
