GUJRAT: Cantonment police claimed to have arrested a suspect allegedly involved in the murder of his stepbrother and niece at Badoki Gosiyan village of Gujranwala.

The police say the suspect confessed before the investigation team that he had killed his stepbrother because the deceased had developed relations with his wife and had been forcing her to seek divorce and marry him.

The victim, Liaqat and his daughter Saba were shot dead by the suspect, Sharafat, and his unidentified accomplice in his (Liaqat’s) house on the night of October 27 the last. A case had been lodged against the suspects on the report of Raisat Ali, brother of the victim.

A spokesman for Gujranwala police said Sharafat and his accomplice, who were at large since the double murder, were arrested in Sadiqabad in a raid.

He added the police had also recovered the weapon used in the double murder, whereas the suspects were sent to Gujranwala district jail on judicial remand by a court.

TWO DIE: Two youths died near Kangniwala as a speeding truck hit their motorbike on Sunday.

Rescue 1122 officials said the motorcyclists, Khizer (23) and Asadullah (13), died instantly in the accident and the bodies were shifted to the hospital.

The truck driver fled the scene after leaving the vehicle on the spot, they said.
