LAKKI MARWAT: Former MNA Hamayun Saifullah Khan has urged Peshawar Electric Supply Company to expedite work on construction of a 132KV grid station near the Lakki city.

In a letter addressed to the power utility, he said: “The work on the power project has been going on at a snail’s pace for the last three years and there is dire need to expedite it so as to complete the project without delay,” he said.

The former lawmaker said payment of bills by residents of Lakki city was cent per cent, therefore they deserved to be provided with smooth and uninterrupted power supply. He also asked the Pesco authorities to energise the near-to-completion cadet college with power facility.

Meanwhile, in another letter, Mr Saifullah asked the Lakki deputy commissioner to arrange funds for the construction of a pedestrian bridge in Wanda Hajigul area of the district.

He said the bridge built by an elder, Shah Behram Khan, in 2018 was in a dilapidated condition, causing inconvenience to the people.

He said the bridge was of vital importance as it linked several villages and hamlets with the Lakki city.

Mr Saifullah said that the pedestrian bridge could be reconstructed at a cost of only Rs300,000 and the district administration should provide funds for it.

ARREST DEMANDED: A trader has asked the government to arrest the people, who had allegedly kidnapped him, within 24 hours or the tribesmen will launch an agitation.

Accompanied by elders of Khujari area, Sherbaz Khan told a presser at the Bannu Press Club on Sunday that on Friday, Aamir Durrani along with two unknown accomplices kidnapped him near his house and shifted him to an unknown place.

“The kidnapers tortured me, snatched my mobile phone and cash and demanded ransom,” he claimed.

He said the kidnappers freed him when their demand for payment of Rs3 million as ransom was accepted.

He said he returned home in a public transport vehicle and lodged a complaint against the suspects with the police.

On the occasion, elders condemned the incident and said abduction of a businessman from near his house indicated police’s failure to ensure writ of law in the district.

They warned that the tribesmen would come onto roads if the alleged kidnappers were not arrested.
