Policeman killed in encounter with drug peddlers

GUJRAT: An Elite Force official was killed and another injured in an encounter with a gang of drug peddlers in Hanj village of Kakrali police precincts late on Monday night.Reports said a police party raided the hideout of drug peddler Faisal, however, he along with accomplices started firing as a result of which policemen Tariq Aziz and Aamir Shahzad sustained bullet injuries.

Tariq succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to a hospital. The suspects fled the scene.

Police cordoned off the area but the suspects could not be arrested.

Gujrat District Police Officer Dr Mustanser Atta Bajwa and other senior officials reached the spot soon after the incident.Police have registered a case against the suspects and started investigation.

Funeral prayers for the deceased policeman were offered at Police Lines on Tuesday and he was laid to rest at the graveyard of his native village Mararian.

Inspector General of Police Usman Anwar, taking notice of the incident, has directed the authorities to trace and arrest the culprits.

The Gujrat DPO has constituted different teams to trace and arrest the suspects.
