LAHORE: A fire erupted in the brake van of the Karachi-bound Tezgam Express between Kot Lakhpat and Jia Bagga railway stations on Wednesday.
However, no casualties were reported and all passengers remained safe.
The personnel of Rescue 1122 and the train administration successfully extinguished the fire.
The officials detached the brake van from the train to start its journey.
Railways CEO Amir Ali Baloch ordered an immediate investigation into the incident and sought report within two days, said a press release.
It stated that an initial investigation by railways and rescue authorities revealed no evidence of flammable substances in the brake van of the Tezgam Express.
It said all aspects of the incident would be thoroughly examined.
“If negligence on the part of a private contractor is found, their performance guarantee will be forfeited, and strict legal action will be taken,” the statement said.
