ODI’s more important says Afridi

LAHORE, April 15: All-rounder Shahid Afridi believes that One-day cricket has become more important than Test cricket.

Afridi was talking to journalists on Saturday after finishing a short one-day training camp, ahead of two ODIs match series against India to be played in Abu Dhabi on April 18 and 19. Afridi said though various legends of the game believe Test cricket was more important,he had his own opinion.

Afridi announced his retirement from Test cricket, this week, till the 2007 World Cup in West Indies.

"Now It becomes a tough job to continue playing Test and ODI cricket and as the World Cup is my main priority which prompted me to take an important decision," he said. He said that his performance in ODIs was being affected due to Test cricket.

He said that no player could give consistent performance due to heavy schedule of matches."In the past, a player could celebrate his performance for a good number of days due to less number of matches, but now he is looking forward for the next match after the first,"he said.

He said that Pakistan had good players for Test cricket and his decision would not affect the team’s performance.
