KARACHI: The Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF) has denounced the recently-conducted elections of the Karachi Basketball Association (KBBA), terming them “fake and illegal”.
According to a statement released by Muhammad Yaqoob on Wednesday, former acting president of the KBBA, the elections were held without his knowledge or consent, and his name was included as senior vice president without his approval.
“I was not present at these so-called elections, and my name was included as senior vice president without my knowledge or consent,” Yaqoob said in the statement.
Yaqoob clarified that he reserves the right to pursue legal action against the organisers of these illegitimate elections.
Yaqoob pointed out that the former president of the KBBA, Ghulam Mohammad Khan, was suspended by the PBBF in May 2024, and a scrutiny and Management Committee was established to oversee the process of identifying legitimate clubs in Karachi and ensuring fair and transparent elections.
A source from the PBBF confirmed to Dawn that the elections were held by Ghulam Mohammad, who was suspended, and were therefore illegitimate.
The PBBF has urged the basketball community and stakeholders to support its efforts to restore order and transparency within the KBA.
The federation is working to ensure the integrity of the sport and prevent any unauthorised activities that undermine the credibility of the association.
