ILLEGAL SHOPS

ILLEGAL SHOPS: The dual-track road at Jauhar Chowrangi flyover leading to Jauhar Morr has been illegally encroached upon by several flower vendors, disrupting the flow of traffic. The area comes under the relevant cantonment board which is very strict in removing illegal establishments, such as cabins and carts. Their bulldozers and loading trucks are on constant patrolling. However, they pass through these encroached portions daily, but never bother to remove these illegal flower shops. The cantonment board should immediately clear this area.

POLICE HARASSMENT: I am a fre-quent visitor to Karachi, and on every single visit I notice that the parking system in the city is problematic. Ironically, traffic police officials happen to be one of the major reasons as they often stand in narrow streets to ‘catch’ their prey. Recently, the traffic police put penalty charges on me without any reasonable explanation. I, being helpless, had to pay. The relavant authorities should take immediate action in this regard.

CORRUPT STAFF: The culture of bribery and corruption among court staff in Pakistan is alarming. The judiciary and government have taken steps to eradicate it, but the problem has persisted. The officials often change the proceedings to the next date for a very small amount, or delay the proceedings if their palms are not greased. The judiciary and government must strengthen accountability.

SKILLED SCHOLARS: Besides reli-gious education, all seminary students should be taught a professional skill so that they may earn a decent living. Without a skill, these students have only a few options for employment currently. However, if they learn a skill or earn a professional qualification, in addition to acquiring religious education, they can explore various opportunities.
