Scars of negligence

POTHOLES on major roads and streets across Karachi have become a daily nuis-ance for the commuters. These scars of negligence cause significant delays, damage vehicles, and pose serious safety hazards. It is disheartening that a city as vital as Karachi is grappling with such basic infrastructure problems that hinder its residents’ mobility and productivity.

The situation worsens with overflowing sewage that obscures the depth of these potholes, increasing the risk of accidents. Motorcyclists and pedestrians are parti-cularly vulnerable. Beyond the immediate inconvenience, these potholes are indica-tive of larger issues, such as poor urban planning, lack of maintenance, and inadequate allocation of municipal funds.

The authorities concerned must prioritise the repair and maintenance of Karachi’s roads. Regular inspections, timely repairs, and sustainable road construction practices are necessary to prevent such problems from recurring.

In essence, addressing this issue is not merely a matter of convenience, but a critical step towards ensuring the safety and wellbeing of Karachi’s residents.
