HYDERABAD: A couple suffered severe burn injuries in a gas blast in their home in Al-Shifa Colony, near Old Sabzi Mandi early Friday morning.

The blast occurred as soon as 26-year-old woman, Aneeqa Waqas, tried to lit the stove in the kitchen. She and her husband, 27-year-old Waqas, received burns from the flames that filled the kitchen next. The blast also caused a wall in the home to cave in. The couple was rushed to the Liaquat University Hospital, where Dr Faizan Memon said the couple had suffered 30-40pc burns.

It was said that the couple had forgotten to turn off the stove’s knob when gas supply went off in the evening.

The supply resumed sometime in the morning and gas had kept filling up the kitchen.
